The Shriners Hospitals for Children provide health care for patients. Getting these children to the health care location can be expensive. The Al Azhar Shriners Patient Transportation Fund covers the costs of getting these children to the help they need. The mode of transportation can take various forms depending on the medical situation. This fund covers all the costs for the patient and one accompanying parent or guardian. These costs can include the mode of travel, hotel and meal costs.
Information about the patient is of paramount concern and only the necessary information about the patient is shared with those Shriners who need to know. Some patients and their families are so grateful for the experiences they have had at a Shrine health care location that they are willing to share their experiences through presentations and attendance at Shrine meetings and banquets.Children receiving care do not have to be related to a Shriner, or have any other connection to Al Azhar Shriners. While some parents choose to become Shriners after their children receive care that is certainly not required or expected.
